which probably explains the need for the abbreviation !
This grand sounding title describes a small battery operated device, about the size of a chocolate bar that you can hold in your hand or keep in your pocket, which is attached to four adhesive pads that stick to your lower back, as shown in the above picture.
These pulses block the pain signals reaching your brain, offering you much needed relief. There is no reason not to use a Maternity Tens Machine with other forms of pain relief such as 'Gas and Air' or 'Pethidine'.
The unit, which is small and very easy to use, transmits a small electrical current to the pads and onto your skin, giving a feeling similar to 'pins and needles'. The effect is very similar to having a relaxing back massage.
TENS machines are recommended for use to help with labour pains by Midwives, Doctors and Physiotherapists.....
